$0-63K: Becoming a Freelance Consultant

As a human, you are likely to find yourself at many crossroads throughout life. One of those crossroads may be deciding whether you would like to be an employee or an entrepreneur. 

At one point, I decided to become a freelance consultant. In my first year, I went from $0 to $63k in revenue. Some may say this is a fortune, and others may call it chump change. 

But what impressed me was that I went out there and earned all of it on my own without an employer mailing my check every two weeks. I learned a lot in this experience, and I wanted to share it with those who are wondering what it would take in order to find success in entrepreneurship.

1. Changing My Mindset

One of the most important steps that you need to take when setting out on a journey towards success is getting your mindset right.

There are some major mindset roadblocks that you have to knock out in order to find success as an entrepreneur. These include any thoughts that give money a negative connotation, limiting beliefs and self doubt.

Come to terms with the fact that you are an entrepreneur, and you are doing what you’re meant to do.

2. Creating an Offer that People Want to Buy

Figure out what sort of value you could add to others. What are you good at? What do you like to do? What are some of your best business ideas?

Create an offer that people will not be able to resist.

3. Finding an Audience

Once you have created your irresistible offer, find out out who will buy it. Don’t just throw it out there to see where it sticks. Figure out who would benefit from your offer.

Take the general idea of who would use your product or service and build a profile of your ideal client. This will become your audience. All of the content you create and all of the efforts you make going forward will be done with the intention of connecting with that audience.

4. Building Your Personal Brand and Network

Have you ever heard the quote that says “Your network is your net worth”?

You need to get out there and expand your network by growing your personal brand. Aside from your irresistible offer, you need to provide some other sort of value to these people so that they want to be connected to you.

There are a few ways you can go about this. The most traditional way would be to go to networking events. But today, it is easy to build a following on social media.

Make sure to reach out to your new followers privately so that you can deepen the relationship beyond timeline interactions.

5. Using Compelling Copy

So, you have the offer, the audience and the network. That means it is time to sell. Create compelling copy on your website to put your readers exactly where you want them.

Place the offer in front of them, close the deal and collect their money.

A Common Path to Success

My path to success was not anything out of the ordinary. Many people find success by following these steps. What sets the winners apart from the losers is the hard work, grit and desire to succeed.

Unless you put your best effort forward, you will not succeed. However, if you have the strength and spirit of an entrepreneur, you’re likely to go as far as you can dream.
